Dr. Shaw Boon Tan

Dr. Tan is a General Practitioner with more than 15 years of clinical experience. He completed his medical degree at Melbourne University and his clinical training at the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg in 2006. He worked as a medical officer and surgical resident at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia. During his 6-year hospital career he had been involved in patient care in various medical and surgical fields such as Ear, Nose and Throat surgery, Plastic surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic surgery, Urology, Vascular, Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, General Surgery, Thoracic Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Psychiatry, and Emergency Medicine. He pursued his post-graduate studies by obtaining a Masters Degree in Surgical Science (University of Adelaide) in 2013. He also published several research papers in reputable journals in his areas of interest.


After his experience in tertiary hospital care, he went on to pursue his passion for General Practice. He completed his fellowship training through the Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP). During his GP training, he practised for 4 years in regional and remote regions of South Australia. He also worked at the Mount Barker Footy Club treating sports-related injuries. Upon completion of his fellowship training, he returned to Melbourne to work as a General Practitioner in the eastern suburbs. His special interests include surgical conditions, ear, nose and throat conditions, skin conditions and sports medicine. He also performs minor surgery including skin lesion removal and ear micro-suctioning.


Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, exercising and doing outdoor activities to keep fit. Additionally, Dr. Tan can converse in other languages including Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia.
